Eye Witnesses

Due to the remote location of UAL93's crash site, there were only few witnesses who saw the crash. There were also some who witnessed the explosion immediately afterwards, as well as a light aircraft pilot who witnessed UAL93 rocking its wings during the passenger revolt.

Finally, this segment finishes with an interview with the Somerset County coroner Wally Miller.

The light aircraft, registration N56865, was a Piper Cherokee flying nearby, it's radio recordings are included below:

Somerset County coroner Wally Miller:

Finally, it must be noted that literally thousands of individuals worked the UAL93 crash site for months. They were all witness to aircraft debris, body parts, and the passenger's personal effects.

Phone Calls

Starting from just a few minutes after the hijacking, passengers and crew began making phone calls to officials and family members using GTE airphones and mobile phones.

Altogether, the passengers and crew made 35 airphone calls and two cell phone calls from the flight. Many of these successfully connected, and provided information to those on the ground.

Below are recordings of 2 voice messages, followed by a written account of the calls made by the crew and passengers on UAL93:

  • Tom Burnett made several phone calls to his wife. Burnett explained that the plane had been hijacked by men claiming to have a bomb. He also said a passenger had been stabbed with a knife and that he believed the bomb threat was a ruse to control the passengers. During one of his calls, his wife informed him of the attacks on the World Trade Center and he replied that the hijackers were "talking about crashing this plane. ... Oh my God. It's a suicide mission." He began asking her for information about the attacks, interrupting her from time to time to tell the others nearby what she was saying. Then he hung up. He ended his last call by saying, "Don't worry, we're going to do something."

  • Flight attendant Sandra Bradshaw called the United Airlines maintenance facility at 09:35. She reported the flight had been hijacked by men with knives who were in the cabin and flight deck and had stabbed another flight attendant.

  • Mark Bingham called his mother at 09:37. He reported that the plane had been hijacked by three men who claimed to have a bomb.

  • Jeremy Glick called his wife at 09:37 and told her the flight was hijacked by three dark-skinned men who looked "Iranian", wearing red bandanas and wielding knives. He remained connected until the end of the flight and reported that the passengers voted whether to "rush" the hijackers.

  • Joseph DeLuca called his father at 09:43 to inform him the flight had been hijacked.

  • Todd Beamer attempted to call his wife at 09:43, but was routed to GTE phone operator Lisa D. Jefferson. Beamer told the operator the flight had been hijacked and that two people whom he thought were the pilots were on the floor, dead or injured. He said one of the hijackers had a red belt with what looked to be a bomb strapped to his waist.

  • Marion Britton called her friend, Fred Fiumano, at 09:49. Fiumano recalled, "she said, 'We're gonna. They're gonna kill us, you know, We're gonna die.' And I told her, 'Don't worry, they hijacked the plane, they're gonna take you for a ride, you go to their country, and you come back. You stay there for vacation.' You don't know what to say – what are you gonna say? I kept on saying the same things, 'Be calm.' And she was crying and ... screaming and yelling."

  • Flight attendant Sandra Bradshaw called her husband at 09:50 and told him she was heating water to throw at the hijackers.

  • Passenger Lauren Grandcolas called her husband twice, once before takeoff and once during the hijacking. He missed both her calls. She then passed her phone to Honor Elizabeth Wainio.

  • Wainio called her stepmother at 09:53 and concluded, four and a half minutes later, by saying, "I have to go. They're breaking into the cockpit. I love you."

  • Sandra Bradshaw, still on the phone with her husband, said "Everyone is running up to first class. I've got to go. Bye."

  • Beamer told Jefferson the group was planning to "jump on" the hijackers and fly the plane into the ground before the hijackers' plan could be followed through. Beamer recited the Lord's Prayer and the 23rd Psalm with Jefferson, prompting others to join in. Beamer requested of Jefferson, "If I don't make it, please call my family and let them know how much I love them." After this, Jefferson heard muffled voices and Beamer answering, "Are you ready? Okay. Let's roll." These were Beamer's last words to Jefferson.

  • Edward Felt dialed 9-1-1 from his cell phone from the rear lavatory of the aircraft at 09:58. His call was answered by dispatcher John Shaw, and Felt was able to tell him about the hijacking before the call was disconnected.

Summary of phone calls made from UAL93. Note the only 2 successful cellphone calls were made at lower than 5,000ft altitude:

Aircraft Debris

It is often claimed by conspiracy theorists that no aircraft debris was recovered. Although the energy involved in UAL93's impact was extreme and resulted in much of the aircraft being reduced to smaller pieces, there was still plenty of large, recognisable aircraft debris recovered.

In reality, 95% of the aircraft was recovered, albeit, a lot was pulverised to smaller pieces:

The Crash Site

UAL93 crash at a steep angle, inverted, at a speed of 560mph, leaving a crater 10ft deep and 50ft wide.

The energy involved resulted in larger, heavier parts of the aircraft burying themselves up to 40ft deep into the impact crater, whilst much of the smaller, lighter debris, was scatter over a large area.

Other Airliner Impacts with Similar Results

The following details 5 other accidents which have left behind similar impact craters and scattered debris fields as UAL93.

PSA Flight 1771

Pacific Southwest Airlines Flight 1771 was British Aerospace 146-200A on a scheduled flight on 7 December 1987. It crashed in San Luis Obispo County after being hijacked by David Burke, a disgruntled former employee of USAir, the parent company of Pacific Southwest Airlines.

The pilots were presumably shot dead by Burke before the plane crashed. The plane was estimated to have crashed slightly faster than the speed of sound, at around 770 mph, disintegrating instantly. Based on the deformation of the hardened steel black box data recorder case, the aircraft experienced a deceleration of 5,000 g's when it hit the ground. It was traveling at an approximately 70-degree angle. The impact left a crater less than two feet deep and four feet across. Only 11 of the passengers were ever identified.

CPN Flight 7809

Caspian Airlines Flight 7908 was a scheduled commercial flight that crashed near the village of Jannatabad, Iran, on 15 July 2009. All 153 passengers and 15 crew on board died.

During the climb, an uncontained failure of one of the engines resulted in fuel and hydraulic fluid igniting in the tail of the aircraft, eventually destroying the rods that move the rear control surfaces thereby removing the ability of the crew to control the aircraft. The aircraft impacted the ground at high speed, forming a crater 30 feet deep and scattering debris.

ETH Flight 302

Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 was a scheduled passenger flight on 10 March 2019. The Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft crashed near the town of Bishoftu six minutes after takeoff, killing all 157 people aboard.

Issues with the aircraft MCAS system resulted in the plane diving into the ground at almost 700mph, burying debris 30ft deep into the soil. The impact created a crater measured about 90 feet wide, and 120 feet long.

VJA Flight 592

ValuJet Flight 592 was a scheduled flight from Miami International Airport on May 11, 1996. McDonnell Douglas DC-9 crashed into the Everglades about 10 minutes after taking off as a result of a fire in the cargo compartment. All 110 people on board died.

The crew lost control, possibly due to incapacitation, less than 10 seconds before impact. The airliner crashed at a steep angle at 500mph. Witnesses in a nearby small private plane stated that it seemed to "disappear" after hitting the swamp and they could see nothing but scattered small debris, part of an engine, and a large pool of jet fuel near the crash site.

China Eastern Airlines Flight 5735

China Eastern Airlines Flight 5735 was a scheduled domestic passenger flight in China from Kunming to Guangzhou. On 21 March 2022, the Boeing 737 aircraft operating the service descended steeply mid-flight and struck the ground at high speed killing all 123 passengers and 9 crew members. Multiple reports are asserting that the airplane was deliberately crashed.

At 14:22 local time, while approaching its top of descent, the aircraft entered a sudden steep descent from 29,100 feet. It briefly levelled off and climbed from 7,400 ft to 8,600 ft, but then plunged downwards again, reaching a final recorded altitude of 3,225 ft less than two minutes after the beginning of the descent, with a maximum descent rate of nearly 31,000 feet per minute.

Air Traffic Control & Radar Data

UAL93 was tracked by air traffic control and radar, all the way from takeoff to impact.

Not only this, but the pilots, and hijackers, interacted with dozens of different aircraft throughout.

UAL93's Projected Flight Path Causes Panic at the Capital

After UAL93 turned east and disabled its transponder, an air traffic controller named Linda Justice placed a flight plan into the Air Traffic System based on UAL93's last known heading, and speed.

This projected flight path went from Hagerstown Airport, to Reagan National Airport in DC.

This projected flight path shows up in an air traffic controllers Traffic Situation Display (TSD), and does not have to necessarily coincide with any actual radar input.

This lead to a panic at the Capital around 10:15am in the morning, as word of another aircraft approaching DC began to spread:

As the Vice President and others sat below the White House in the PEOC watching this target get closer and closer, two F-16's scrambled from Andrews Air Force Base, unarmed, and raced towards it's expected arrival. By this stage of the day, they were given authorisation to use deadly force.

The entire event just described was the cause of the famous Norman Mineta testimony of an aircraft being "50 miles.... 30 miles.... 10 miles" out from DC. Mineta himself has confused this with AAL77 which impacted the Pentagon an hour earlier. But nevertheless, the evidence we now have shows clearly the event he describes was caused by the projected flight path of UAL93.

My video explaining this is linked at the bottom of this blog, under 'The Myths' heading.

The Black Box - UAL93's Flight Data & Cockpit Voice Recorder

Both the Flight Data Recorder and Cockpit Voice Recorder were recovered buried 30ft deep in UAL93's impact crater. All data was able to be successfully recovered from both.

Reconstruction of the FDR by the NTSB:

Due to the contents of the CVR, it was never released publicly, but has been played for the 9/11 investigators, 9/11 commissioners, select media, family members of the victims on UAL93, and to the Jury during the trial of Zacarias Moussaoui.

Families say Flight 93 tapes prove heroism
April 19, 2002

"Relatives of the 40 passengers and crew members killed when a hijacked plane crashed into a rural Pennsylvania field September 11 said Thursday the cockpit voice recording offers further proof that those on board acted heroically -- fighting back against hijackers who commandeered United Airlines Flight 93"

"The FBI played the 31-minute recording in closed sessions Thursday inside a Princeton, New Jersey, hotel, first for the families of the two pilots and five flight attendants and later for the families of the 33 passengers. None of the fight crew's families -- all of whom were represented -- commented on the experience. Only a handful of some 70 passengers' relatives did." - Source

The Myths:

There are several conspiracy theories and myths surrounding UAL93. Most center on a belief that the lack of aircraft debris at the crash site is cause to believe no airliner crashed there at all. The contents of this blog should have put that to rest thoroughly.

Nevertheless, we will touch on a couple more here.

UAL93 not shot down:

Aside from the fact the military didn't even know about UAL93 until after it crashed, as shown above.

Plenty more myths refuted in my debunking of Loose Change Second Edition:

and as mentioned above, my video explaining why UAL93 caused Norman Mineta's testimony:

In Summary:

Contained in this blog is everything from first hand witnesses, experts, debris, air traffic control and radar data, military records, black box data, and a complete summary of the hijackers and their activities, that shows that UAL93 was hijacked on September 11, and was crashed during a struggle for control between the passengers and the terrorists. If you still, after making your way through this blog, believe that UAL93 never existed, or never crashed, or was shot down.... then evidence clearly is not your motive, and nothing will ever convince you otherwise of your beliefs.
